On July 13th, we had the opportunity to explore Jerusalem along with our host families. They took us to the expansive Shuk (almost the equivalent of Kings Plaza), however is not indoors and is not nearly as nice. It's also pretty easy to bargain in the Shuk. Not only did the host families take us to the Shuk, but they showed us their favorite spots all over Jerusalem. Along our journey through the city, our entire group stumbled upon a street performer. Eventually I (Oren) joined the performer in singing "One Day" by Akon ft. Matisyahu. A few minutes later, our entire group performed both "What a Wonderful World" & our favorite, "Wake Me Up" featured above. This was definitely one of the most amazing experiences we've had on our journey through this beautiful country, also known as Israel. During that moment, we truly felt like family. This will definitely be something that we'll remember for years to come.
ARTEL 2015 :
By : Oren Kornfeld & Erica Veltman
While Oren's been to Israel at the very young age of 3 and doesn't remember it at all, Erica has never been there. They're both very excited to experience Israel for the first time. When we think about Israel, we both think about the desert, which makes this poster an extreme contradiction to our expectations. We hope to explore both the rural, as well as the urban parts of the country. This picture depicts all the different parts of Israel we hope to explore. We hope to see the beauty of the country as a whole, as well as all of the technological advances of the country as Israel is one of the leading countries in technology.
ARTEL Shabbaton 2015 has been an amazing bonding experience for us all. We've all met plenty of new friends who will last a lifetime. We look forward to spending our two weeks in Israel together and can't wait to become even closer to one another. This Shabbaton has taught us plenty of valuable lessons, one of these lessons that we hold close to our heart is to always be proud of who you are. Always be proud that you're part of עם ישראל (The Jewish Nation). We've also learned tons about Israel itself including, sadly, that you do not ride a camel from the airport to your hotel room. Whether you're from a different country, have a different lifestyle or culture, we'll all come together to the land of Israel. The home for Jews all over the world. |
